Make 'Way' For Friends

It seems that not a day goes by when I hear something that is Prince-esque, and today is just a another day for me to soak in some Purplish Rain. This time frothing up a homage is Brooklyn brood Friends who fronted by Samantha Urbani and featuring producing sultan Dev Hynes on back-up. Together they craft a steamy '80's guitar ballad that seems like it hopped, skipped and jumped off of the Purple Rain soundtrack ready to make Morris Day jealous and woo Apollonia. Grinding on guitars and dense basslines, "The Way" poses as a in-between off-shoot as the band, noted for 2011's "I'm His Girl" preps and retools their sound for their upcoming sophomore set. In whichever direction this band is going, I'm sure to now follow, as "The Way" is easily one of the best Prince & The Revolution doppelganger tracks I've heard in the longest. Turn on the smoke machine and prep your best air guitar moves as you take this one for a spin.
