SBTRKT Has Something Worth Seeing & Hearing With 'IMO'

"What am I seeing?" That was the thought that kept running through my head as I watched SBTRKT's video for "IMO," the first listen of something new from his next album and a dedication to the memory of his deceased brother. "IMO" is a mellow song that sounds like the hollowed out soundtrack of an '80's video game infused with bits of soulfulness. For the visuals, there are no lyrics or words on screen, only an endlessly rotating stone that changes colors. Is it a piece of coral, a rock or a mummified brain? What, then, does each represent? These are all things that, in my opinion, could have been what I was seeing, and belies the beauty of letting your mind drift to music. Perception is in the eye of the beholder.
