Shannon Sanders Has A Message In The Music In 'Man Up'

If you long for the bygone days when soul music had a message, then Shannon Sanders is here to deliver one to you straight up no chaser on his new single "Man Up." On the track from his upcoming album The Grown Man Handbook, he takes men to task and implores them to stand up and step up to be better fathers and active mentors in their communities. The piano-driven groove with well-placed drum licks and trumpet flourishes will have you nodding your head and snapping your fingers, but it's Shannon's powerful vocals and the lyrical content that pull you in to the anthem. The "Man Up" music video is equally as engaging with Sanders suited and booted and tip-tapping away on the keys of an upright piano that has seen some better days but is still hitting all the right notes. He's not alone on set, however, as he's joined by an adorable youngster whose toothless grin will melt the icebox where your heart used to be. Together they are quite a sight in their matching suits and "Man Up" t-shirts, especially when the young lad gets a trumpet in his hands and mimics playing it. That cuteness overload aside, seeing their interaction drives the point of this song home. Each one, reach one and teach one. The singer/songwriter/producer/musician is currently on the road touring with India.Arie as her musical director, but hopefully we'll get Shannon Sanders' The Grown Man Handbook in our hands sooner rather than later.
