Smokey Robinson Stops The Audience In Its 'Tracks' At BET Honors 2014

Smokey BET Honors 2014

Smokey Robinson's lifelong friendship with Motown founder Berry Gordy is the stuff of legend, so it's no surprise that the R&B icon was on hand in his sharp purple suit to honor his good friend at this year's BET Honors celebration. For the occasion, the velvet-voiced crooner dusted off The Miracles' classic "Tracks of My Tears." While a rather somber choice for the event, it's a fitting one seeing as the track is one of the most successful songs in Motown's storied history, with it selling millions of records and eventually being inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame. And its popularity showed as everyone in the audience, from Berry to Ice Cube and even the Queen of Soul herself sang along with Smokey as he performed. And though he also performed another song in tribute to his best friend, this one was definitely the more touching moment and truly illustrated just how much the house that Gordy built touched the hearts and souls of generations. We dare you to take a peek at Smokey's thoughtful tribute and and not find yourself singing along.
