D'Angelo Makes Us 'Glad' To Take What We Can Get

You still aren't holding your breath for that new D'Angelo album are you? Like us, you've probably already exhaled and given up hope a while ago despite his reappearance on concert stages around the world (with new songs to boot) and assurances from trusted sources such as Questlove that the long-awaited follow up to Voodoo was in fact done and coming sooner than later. Maybe "later" was code for "never" because at this point that's the hard truth that fans are faced with until further notice.

But maybe, just maybe, the rerelease of D'Angelo's 1996 Live at the Jazz Cafe, London EP, repackaged with the full 1995 concert for Live at the Jazz Cafe, London: The Complete Show, is the thread of a lifeline to keep us all still hanging on. This previously unheard song, a live cover of Al Green's "I'm Glad You're Mine," definitely has us caught up in its rapture. If you listen closely you might hear the sound of angels and harps on this heavenly rendition. We hear D'Angelo at his live best -- his voice crisp, the band in the pocket and the jam tight. This track is one of five rarities that will find its way on this new collection of classic hotness, and it's suddenly something to get excited about. This may not be how we thought we'd get something new from D'Angelo, but we'll gladly accept this something old to keep the blues at bay.
