Janelle Monáe Electrifies 'The Today Show'

Janelle Monae Performs On NBC's "Today"

Our favorite electric lady, Janelle Monáe, stunned the audience during her performance this morning on The Today Show for its Toyota Concert Series. Not only did she sing "Electric Lady," but the ArchAndroid also supported the upcoming release of the animated film Rio 2 by performing "What Is Love," which she also recently performed on American Idol. She belted the movie’s opening song and was accompanied by colorful samba dancers as the audience waved Brazilian flags. Sporting her signature black and white and a letterman jacket with ‘Electric Lady’ on the back, she greeted and sang to audience members who were just as excited to be front and center for her performance. No matter what she sings, Monáe always manages to channel her inner Michael Jackson while executing her own unique twist. The high funkstress added her fancy footwork and contagious energy to both performances and at no point showed any signs of being winded.

Check out her live performance and, if you have the audacity to have never seen her live, Monáe kicks off her new tour at the end of the month. And by the way, if you’re in love with her new single “What Is Love,” you can get it on iTunes and of course catch Rio 2 on April 11th.
