Janelle Monáe Brings Her 'Electric' Energy To 'The Maya Rudolph Show'

Janelle Monae Maya Rudolph

Show of hands, who watched Maya Rudolph spread her wings on last night's premiere of The Maya Rudolph Show? Though everything featured wasn't as winning as the comedienne's personality, there were definitely some highlights that stood out from the rest of the show's sketches. Of course, as she is wont to do, Janelle Monáe provided a showstopping number when she took the stage backed by Maya's house band (led by a dashing and debonair Raphael Saadiq) for a solo rendition of "Electric Lady." Janelle shook and shocked the crowd as she danced her way across the stage and into the audience as she urged them to get waaaaaaa-aaaaaay down. If only the end of Maya's foray into variety show territory could've matched Janelle's energy. Luckily, the ratings for the hour-long show were pretty solid, so Maya might get another chance to get it right in the near future (we certainly hope so). Peep Janelle do her thing, and, in case you missed it, get a taste of The Maya Rudolph Show in its entirety below.
