Mack Wilds' single "My Crib" was the song that made me personally turn into a fan of the actor-turned-singer's music. Since then, his GRAMMY-nominated debut album New York: A Love Story has stayed in heavy rotation thanks to its head-nodding, hip-hop soul flavor. The hip-hop dial gets turned up a notch with this new remix featuring Pusha T of The Clipse fame. Not that Mack Wilds needs any help convincing a honey to slide through, but Pusha provides an assist with a few bars tacked onto the song's intro and coming back for an appearance on the bridge where he humble-brags about all his riches and real estate.
It's great that "My Crib" has gotten a second life with this remix just in time for the summer. Not only that, it has also found a home on the soon-to-be-released BET Presents Music Matters Vol. 1 compilation curated by Salaam Remi for this year's BET Experience, the three-day entertainment extravaganza surrounding the BET Awards. In addition to Mack Wilds, Salaam has compiled tracks by Miguel, Marsha Ambrosius, Melanie Fiona, The Internet, Chris Turner and more on this collection, which will be released on his Louder Than Life imprint on June 23rd just in time for the BET Awards on June 29th.
