We were never bashful when it came to declaring our love for "Latch," the 2012 megahit by British production duo Disclosure featuring SoulBounce fave Sam Smith. (I mean, we don’t just put anybody on our Hot 16 best of the year lists, nah’mean?) So we get a little apprehensive when people attempt to mess with one of our favorite songs. Luckily, people like T. Williams and JaVonté have made us a bit more trusting on that front...so bring on the next!
Enter French DJ/producer TEEMID. The Bordeaux native has a knack for, er, latching on to other people’s covers and reworking them in his signature techno-house style. For this particular song, which he's offering as a free download, he settled upon YouTube darling Daniela Andrade. The Canadian chanteuse released her lovely, sparse cover a few weeks ago, using her lithe vocals in a way that brings beautiful focus to the lyrics. TEEMID deftly reworked her cover, incorporating electronic house beats and synth-heavy instrumentals without overpowering her delicate voice. The end result, an electronic groove with just the right amount of chill, is quite enjoyable.
