Singer, songwriter and actress Ashanti teamed up with French Montana for her latest single, "Early In the Morning," and now we have the unfortunate visuals. The single itself, from her latest studio album Braveheart, is typical Ashanti. She uses her vocals to purr over a track about a one-sided, two-dimensional relationship. The DJ Clue-produced single is mediocre at best but will probably surf the radio waves because of its contemporary appeal. Somehow and some way, Auto-Tune finds its way on the track, predominantly on the chorus as French Montana sings, "Ooh, ooh, I got a thing for you, too." Whatever that "thing" may be, we know that it's making Ashanti writhe around in her bed aimlessly in the video.
Directed by Eif Rivera, the clip has about six unfinished concepts rolled into one. Ashanti appears in various shots, either in the studio, a bed or a club, with different wigs performing seductive choreography for her bae. We can also tell she used the same choreographer who suggested she get down on The Queen Latifah Show's floor.
Although we're not excited about this single or video, we hope Ashanti's re-release of her holiday album, A Wonderful Christmas with Ashanti, fares better. Featuring Christmas classics and two original compositions, the album will be available exclusively at Target and digital outlets on October 28th. While you wait to jingle all the way with Ashanti, you can set your alarm or hit the snooze button on "Early In the Morning" and peep the visuals right here.
