SB: So speaking of the album, which is awesome, what was the overall inspiration for it?

LJ: My overall inspiration for the album I think was elevation. I think musically I want to, I don’t want to do what’s out there. I want to set myself apart. It wasn’t a complete conscious effort, it’s just quite naturally how I am. There’s only one Luke James from New Orleans, Louisiana with a mom named Lorraine, there’s only one, you feel me?

SB: Yes, I feel you, you’re still holding my hand so...

LJ: [laughs] I just want to make sure that I give myself, and I’m not giving somebody else’s idea of who I am. And I’m giving my idea of who I am.

SB: Right. And if you could describe your album as a meal, what would it be?

LJ: Breakfast.

SB: That’s my favorite meal. Why breakfast?

LJ: Because it’s your favorite.

SB: [laughs] Don’t do this. So speaking of love, because the whole album is all about love, “Make Love To Me,” let’s talk about that song really quickly.

LJ: That song is written by Ne-Yo and produced by Salaam Remi, and it was given to me. It just feels amazing, I cannot deny the feeling and I’m a songwriter myself and I take pride in writing a lot of my songs, but I also know how to listen to other people’s writings and sometimes someone may write something that you wanted to write but they wrote it first. It just so happens to say all the things that you wanted to say or need to say, and it also feels like something I wrote so it makes sense to sing it.
