R&B's baddest boys, Jodeci, reunited at the Soul Train Awards 2014 and took us way back, back into time as they soared through a medley of their classic jams without truly missing a beat (to the lip-sync track). "Freek'N You," "Stay," "Come And Talk To Me" and "Forever My Lady" were all accounted for and brought everyone in attendance at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas to their feet and singing every word verbatim as if these sultry tunes had appeared on the radio yesterday.
Though member Devante Swing had a Dollar Tree Christmas bow situation on his scalp, his hair struggle didn't too much distract from the fact that him, along with Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey, Joel "JoJo" Hailey and Dalvin "Mr. Dalvin" DeGrate were bringing that '90s nasty back and showing the babies how to truly beg and plead for their women in harmony. Clown if you want with these cats, but without albums like 1991's Forever My Lady, your current faves wouldn't know how to Casanova the right way.
Speaking of bringing things back, at the awards show the North Carolina natives also made well aware of the fact that they are on the comeback trail, as in between their nostalgic trip they premiered their newest single "Nobody Wins" with rapper B.o.B in tow. Though I may be indulging in wishful thinking here, I think Jodeci has still got what it takes to bring a little of that bedroom-eyed croon into the 21st Century. Let's just hope that if and when they do that they know how to bring that grown-up soul man croon back live on stage, too.
