SB: So what is your advice for folks who don't want to spend the night alone?

AM: Number one, make sure that you’re dying to sleep next to the person that’s dying to sleep next to you, you know? And number two, you know, just love yourself first of all and [don't] be afraid to submit to each other. That’s a relationship, you know? Right now, just like in music, there’s a battle of the sexes going on. The women don’t trust men, the men don’t trust the women and for me, I [was] always taught that no matter if you get hurt 1000 times, the 1001st person, they’re innocent until proven guilty and you have to start fresh every single time and take it as an experience. So nine times out of 10 when you got people breaking over stuff, it’s them not knowing how to co-exist.

SB: So you’re about to get on stage soon. What’s your favorite song to perform?

AM: My favorite song to perform would have to be... I love performing R. Kelly’s “Bump N’ Grind.”

SB: Why?

AM: Yeah, it’s such an R&B classic, number one, and not just anyone is gonna get on stage and try do it. I mean, you can go to a little hole in the wall and do it but you go into cities like New York, DC and Philly and all these different spots, it’s like, it’s not a game. When you sing, “My mind is telling me no,” it better go somewhere from here and it better be what I’ve heard all these years, you know? So for me, I love it because every time I’m getting ready to do it, there’s always someone in the audience that’s like, "No, you can’t do it, don’t do it!" And by the end of it, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, he did it.’

SB: Speaking of that reaction, do women throw their panties on the stage?

AM: I got smacked in the face with some boy shorts.

SB: That’s kinda nasty…

AM: And she didn’t just toss ‘em to me, she went... [pretends to ball up and launch underwear]. I think she put like a stone in there so it could make it to me. It smacked me, it got caught in the microphone for a second, but it worked. People liked it.

SB: I’ve always been curious, what do people do with that afterwards?

AM: I give it back according to the smell. [laughs]

SB: Oh my God! So moving on, back to the album [laughs]. Let’s say GMFU is a meal, right, and you’re about to eat it. How do you describe it?

AM: How would I describe this meal? Let’s get it. [claps] Okay, you got a little steak on there right? And it’s a ribeye seasoned with a lot of garlic, a lot of garlic for the spice. And then some mac n’ cheese over here, sitting on the side, just a little cheese. Not too cheesy.

SB: Right, for the lactose intolerant.

AM: Right. [laughs] Then you got some asparagus. It’s very healthy for you, you will not feel filthy or you won’t feel overly stuffed when you get done with this record.

SB: So you won’t feel f**ked up?

AM: You won’t feel f**ked up. In all honesty, it’s supposed to do the opposite for you. This meal is supposed to be food for your soul. If you noticed, I was saying things to me that were soulful, like the steak and garlic.

SB: Right. The garlic is questionable.

AM: [Laughs] But you know, at the same time, my music to me is food to your soul. I want you to feel like your day was messed up today, so let me put on some Adrian Marcel so he can help me feel this little get up and I can get back on the right foot.
