With so many delays and Azealia Banks’ penchant for Twitter beef, you’d be forgiven if you thought that her long-discussed debut album Broke With Expensive Taste would never see the light of day, a fate which seemed certain when it was announced that Azealia and her label had officially parted ways. So when Azealia started releasing singles and videos soon after, folks were caught by surprise. And that surprise grew when she dropped the album without notice this past fall and we discovered that it was actually good. The talented rapper/singer weaved her nimble wordplay and vocal talent throughout the set, with songs like “Idle Delilah,” “Soda,” “Wallace” and “Chasing Time” showing that she’s a musical force that won’t be denied. Though it’s not without its missteps, Broke With Expensive Taste proves that while Azealia’s known for speaking her mind, right or wrong, she’s got the goods to back it all up. -- D-Money
