The Brand New Heavies Sweet Freaks [Review][Amazon][iTunes][Google Play]

With just a little over a year between new albums, The Brand New Heavies came back in 2014 with the triumphantly funky Sweet Freaks to make up for the uneven collection Forward of 2013. Dawn Joseph stepped fully into her role as the group's new lead singer and clocked in an impressive showing with her vocals tripping the light fantastic against BNH's lively acid jazz instrumentation. With songs like "Sweet Freeek," "In the Name of Love" and a raucous remake of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" leading us straight to the dance floor, we couldn't help but get funked up. -- Butta
