Usher "Good Kisser" [Listen][Amazon][iTunes]
After spending a few years catering to the EDM crowd, Usher decided to return to his R&B roots in 2014 with the funk/soul jam “Good Kisser.” Like a wink, wink, nudge, nudge between good friends, Usher bragged to his audience about the lip service he receives from his main girl. The beat started off very sparse, with a smidge of bass guitar, a hint of drums and vocals that sounded almost like Usher was talking rather than singing. Next thing you know, the melody came in. Then everything switched gears, the beat and Usher’s vocals delivering lush sounds and melisma, before bringing things back to the start, teasing and taunting us throughout the course of this mid-tempo ditty, which left us open and ready for more. -- Ken Hamm
