Flo Rida protégée Natalie La Rose is out with her solo single, "Somebody," which features hooks and backgrounds from crooner Jeremih.

The Future Classic-produced track pays homage to Whitney Houston's iconic pop gem "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" by updating the melody and vocals for the 21st century. But Natalie's version is not a straight cover of one of the best who ever did it.

Instead, like many a jam made for partying, La Rose sings verses of the inevitable looks she gets when stepping in the club and the shade thrown by drama-causing haters. Meanwhile, that Whitney update is most notable during Jeremih's refrains: "I wanna rock with somebody / I wanna take shots with somebody / I wanna leave with somebody / We ain't gotta tell nobody, we ain't gotta tell nobody."

"Somebody" does well fitting into the mold of of-the-moment party anthems by referencing youth-catering club culture, possessing a hot beat and the pursuit of a good time. That's also the track's weakness, as those references and boldfaced names linked to the cut take attention away from Natalie's abilities. Still, what is gleaned here is that she does have a voice — we just look forward to it being showcased more on her next offering.
