With an investigation launched into Bunky’s murder, a detective pays a visit to Lucious Lyon’s office and tips him off that there might be an eyewitness to the crime. With that nugget of information, Lucious goes to Andre who has connections in the District Attorney’s office and wants to find out who this witness is to make sure that the DA doesn’t drop the ball and that justice gets served. Right.

Threatened by Cookie’s presence, Anika hires a private investigator to follow her, and sure enough he comes back with compromising photos of her clandestine meeting with the FBI. Armed with this information, Lucious confronts Cookie while she’s grieving over Bunky in his casket and asks her if she snitched to get out of jail early. Cookie played it off like an award-winning actress and tells him that she didn’t. Outside of Bunky’s funeral, she later has a heated exchange with her younger sister Carol, who was the only one to know about her deal, to make sure that she wasn’t a snitch either. In the midst of all these snitching allegations and denials, the best actor of all is Lucious who eulogizes Bunky and turns on the water works to make it even more convincing.

Andre pays a visit to the DA’s office and literally pumps the deputy mayor for information as he bends her over her desk. After a few strokes, she gives him the what that he needs. Later that night, Andre’s wife Rhonda suspects something is going on when he gets a call from the deputy mayor. In an unexpected twist, Andre admits that he did in fact break her off that afternoon, which turns Rhonda on in the most bizarre moment of foreplay ever.

Back at Empire, Lucious encourages the relationship between Hakeem and Tianna and things heat up between the young lovers. Unbeknownst to Tianna, though, she’s girlfriend #2 behind Hakeem’s cougar bae Camilla, inexplicably played by Naomi Campbell, who steps on the scene and is none too pleased when she catches the two of them turning up at a club.

Agent Carter lets Cookie know that there’s a private investigator sniffing around, but he’s paid off by the feds before he can blow their cover. To further play things off, Cookie invites Agent Carter to the Empire offices to act as her parole officer and meet Lucious, who believes their ruse. In exchange for her cooperation, Carter hooks Cookie up with the contact info for an old associate of hers who she’s been trying to track down.

That old friend is former songwriter Puma, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr., who was sweet on her back in the day and turns on the charm once again. Cookie convinces him to give her an old song of his to see what magic Jamal can make with it and he brings it up to date.

After a family dinner party at the Lyon mansion where Cookie serves up heaping helpings of shade to Anika, Jamal performs the song for Lucious and it triggers memories of his past with Cookie when he sang this song first. Lucious is impressed with Jamal’s update, but instead of giving him props he suggests that he sell the song to John Legend and think about a future as an arranger. Ouch. Jamal reads Lucious for filth before storming out with his boyfriend.

Jamal and Lucious have another run-in when he pays him a visit and picks yet another fight. This war of words escalates and ends with Jamal and Michael moving out of the apartment that Lucious pays for in an effort to cut the cord and all ties. Jamal, much like Latifah, has had it up to here with his father’s disregard and disrespect and he vows to take the empire. -- Butta
