Paisley Sparks: I've been to that venue a few times over the years, but I don't think I ever remember a sound like the one when the house lights went down. It was noisy, but there was definitely an extra tinge of excitement. I was beside myself at that point! Every hair the back on my neck stood up.

Ivory: Almost sounds like we were at the same show! I'd been to the Apollo dozens of times, but never remember the venue being entirely full before show time. Almost everybody was already in their seats by the time the lights went down and the anticipation was palpable! I don't think I've been that excited before a single note was played in all my life. I had bet my friend that he'd open with "1000 Deaths." Good thing we didn't put money on it since I would have been wrong. Close, but wrong. LOL He started with "The Prayer."

Paisley Sparks: I'd never had the chance to see him before, so I was just praying that the live show would match the quality of the records. I went with such enthusiasm, but I was petrified that would be letdown. That opening put that fear aside. I guessed "1000 Deaths," too, and when the pre-song speech played I was ready to lose it! But he opened with "Prayer" as well, and it was perfect!

Ivory: It was so perfect. I think I would've lost it for any song he would have opened with, truthfully. But when he did finally launch into "1000 Deaths" I was so excited. It sounded better than I could have imagined. I still had no idea about everything he was saying, but it didn't even matter!

Paisley Sparks: The thing that really surprised me was the absolutely amazing quality of his voice. "Prayer" was so perfectly delivered almost to no accompaniment, but you're right when "1000 Deaths" kicked in, WOW! On record it made me want to dance in a very dark, very small padded room. Live it made me want to run all through the place like a madman!

Ivory: OMG We had the same experience! I wanted to just scream it at the top of my voice.

Paisley Sparks: Did he stop the band halfway through?

Ivory: He didn’t do that for us. I bet that was fun!

Paisley Sparks: He stopped then he started it again to perfection. That was mind-blowing!
