SB: I think when you’re from a certain city they expect you to rep it all the time. You're definitely repping Chicago. Are there any other artists who we should pay attention to or any that you’re listening to from Chicago?

BJ: Honestly, when I’m creating I don’t listen to other artists because it’s easy to be a sponge and kinda give you what you’ve taken in. So I’m kinda chill on that, but I’m more or less into just what I’m creating with my friends and things of that sort because I don’t want to be inspired by somebody else. I could be inspired by something and I could easily end up transforming that into my own music and I don’t wanna do that. I still want to have my own individuality so everybody can appreciate me for who I am more than who somebody else is.

SB: And since you’re creating a lot lately, are we getting a new album?

BJ: Yes, absolutely, I’m working on the LP now as we speak. It’ll definitely be out this year some time. We started on it a few years back but every other thing I’ve been working on is to finish this thing up.

SB: Okay, nice. So what can we expect? Are you going in a different direction or experimenting with new sounds?

BJ: It’s gonna come with a seatbelt because it’s gonna be a ride for sure.

SB: Well alright then! So you describe yourself as an R&B singer right? In your opinion, what do you think the future of R&B is looking like?

BJ: Good if I’m in it! [laughs]

SB: Perfect answer. So we hear you’re going on some tour dates with Luke James and you did a few dates with ScHoolboy Q. Are you planning on being on the road some more?

BJ: I mean we were just on the road with Marsha Ambrosius, that was the most consistent dates, the Marsha tour. That was like my first run as a solo artist and it was fun, that made the most sense. But yeah a few dates with Q but that didn’t compare to the dates with Marsha.

SB: And you’ve been all over, we just caught you on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, how was that experience?

BJ: It was super dope, that was my first time on Jimmy Fallon. I’ve done Oprah, but I hadn’t done Fallon yet.

SB: That’s awesome, and we're at the end of our time. So, of course, our favorite question here at SoulBounce.com, what makes your soul bounce?

BJ: Umm, good people, good music, good food, good attitude, good energy.

SB: What’s your favorite food?

BJ: Soul food!

SB: Of course!
