Eric Benet has always been a masterful live performer, something we greatly respect and appreciate in this current era of studio-bred artists. He's also proven himself to be quite the consummate duet partner over the years (with artists like Tamia, Chrisette Michele, Ledisi, Eddie Levert and even his own daughter, India Benét). Well, it looks like Mr. Benet did the math and decided to combine these two strengths to establish his new Eric Benet & Friends residency at Los Angeles' Conga Room.
Hosted by comedian Chris Spencer and infused with a throwback vibe, the monthly showcase will feature Benet joined by various talented artists to celebrate "real R&B music" with a live band. And what better way to kick things off than with two bona fide R&B Divas like Faith Evans and Angie Stone. Having already done a number of duets together (including their incredible Toto/Cheryl Lynn remake, "Georgy Porgy"), we already know the musical chemistry of Evans and Benet will electrify the stage. Add the rich, soul-drenched sass of Ms. Stone and this is sure to be one unforgettable evening.
The inaugural concert goes down tomorrow, Friday, March 6th, and though many sections are already sold out, you can still score a general admission ticket on the Conga Room's website. For those of us who can't be there, we can soothe ourselves with a special Spotify playlist curated by Mr. Benet himself. Confirmed artists for this ongoing series will be announced on a monthly basis. But hey, it's Los Angeles, so you never know who else may show up and join in for an impromptu jam (maybe even some of the Conga Room's owners like will.i.am or Jennifer Lopez). Stay tuned to Benet's Facebook and Twitter feeds for information and updates.
