For the past few months, D'Angelo has been the gift that keeps on giving. By now we've been aurally immersed in the comeback glory that is Black Messiah. But that doesn't mean we won't still reach back in our musical vaults and pull out some of his earlier gems. German beatmaker FloFilz seems to share that sentiment as he recently released his remix for "Left & Right."

While the "boom bap" of the drums remain similar to the original, the prominent guitar riffs are replaced by a magnetic jazz piano loop reminiscent of the Young-Holt Unlimited sample used in "Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers." Like other reworks of the track, verses by Redman and Method Man have been removed, but the hip-hop vibe remains thanks to head nod-inducing instrumentals. The relative newcomer describes his work as "jazz sample based old school s**t from Germany," and after listening to this, we'd have to say that's a pretty fair assessment. With results like this, we think D'Angelo himself would approve. But, you don't have to take our word for it. Hit the play button below and notice how your head moves "left and right and up and down." Be sure to grab a free download while it's available.

While you're here, go ahead and check out the Erykah Badu and A Tribe Called Quest remixes after "Left & Right." Then follow FloFilz on SoundCloud for even more remixes and original instrumentals. His debut album of originals, Metronom, is currently available for purchase through BandCamp.
