'Saturday Night Live' Takes Aim At 'Empire'

SNL Empire Sasheer Zamata

Empire has taken television by storm, attracting more viewers and rising in ratings every week. But how do we know that the show's really made it? This weekend, Empire got its very own spoof on revered sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.

Rounding up every current black cast member, SNL touched on everything about the show, with Keenan Thompson playing Lucious Lyon and Sasheer Zamata taking on Cookie Lyon among all the fights and drama. In fact, they even added something that the show was missing: a white guy in khakis named Chip. Weekend guest host Chris Hemsworth took on that role as he pops up during some of the shows most awkward moments (like that time that Cookie went upside Hakeem's head with a broomstick or when Jamal confronts Hakeem after being held up at the studio). Like most SNL sketches these days, this one went on well after the initial funny wore off, but was redeemed during a moment between Chip and Porsha (played by Leslie Jones) that involves receipts and a slightly obscene gesture.

While the sketch was cute, it pales in comparison to the real deal. Luckily, we'll be getting into some more drama with a new episode of Empire this Wednesday (and the SoulBounce Empire Watch recap on Thursday). Until then, get your fix by checking out the sketch below.
