Late last year, the revered Lalah Hathaway announced plans to finally record that live album that we've all been waiting for with her PledgeMusic campaign.
Since then, in case you haven't noticed, Lalah has been in high demand these days, making appearances on programs like this year's Black Girls Rock!, popping up on backing vocals for several tracks from Kendrick Lamar's heralded new album To Pimp a Butterfly and even netting a second GRAMMY Award for her work with Robert Glasper Experiment. But as good as Lalah is working with others, she's a musical force all own her own.
And now, since her PledgeMusic goal was met, she's busy prepping to make her dreams a reality after an outpouring of love and donations from friends and fans alike. To that effect, Lalah has booked a gig at Los Angeles' famed Troubadour, where her father, Donny Hathaway, once recorded for his classic album Donny Hathaway Live, where she will record her live album for a special, one-night-only event. "I have aspired to the greatness of Donny Hathaway Live my entire life," the talented songstress said about booking the legendary venue in a press release. "This is an amazing full circle moment for me!"
While we all would love to be there for Lalah's full circle moment, everyone isn't able. However, if you happen to live in the LA area (or will be there near month's end), you can partake in seeing Ms. Hathaway taking on a lifelong dream on the Troubadour's stage for two shows. Tickets to the April 21st live recording can be purchased right now via TicketFly. For those of us who won't be able to plan a trip to LA, lalah hathaway LIVE! is expected to arrive sometime this fall and pre-orders (and special perks) are still available through her PledgeMusic campaign.
