South Dallas, Texas' own Erykah Badu was the recipient of the Rock Star Award at this year's Black Girls Rock! celebration. The singer, who has been keeping us rocking for nearly two decades, was presented with the award by her "twin" Janelle Monáe and she accepted it with the ethereal grace that she's come to been known for as she named the five doctors that she prescribes to — Dr. Sun, Dr. Nutrition, Dr. Exercise, Dr. Spirit and Dr. You.

Soon after, Erykah took the stage to deliver a medley of New Amerykah Part One tracks "Soldier" and "Master Teacher." Backed by the stellar house band, she brought the tracks, which were perfect for the event, to the legends and future leaders in attendance as the crowd sang along and nodded their heads — we see you, First Lady Michelle Obama! — while Erykah kicked knowledge. Badu's eclectic chic outfit aside, the most eyebrow-raising part of her segment was that BET censors allowed her to sing the N-word during "Master Teacher" without nary a bleep. All in all, it was actually a pretty subdued performance from Badu, considering, but it still managed to do what the singer does best: educate, inform and entertain.
