Taraji P. Henson Brings The Funny, The Gospel & The Cookie To 'Saturday Night Live'

Taraji P Henson SNL Bumper

Empire star Taraji P. Henson is finally getting to bask in the spotlight she deserves with the meteoric success of the show. So much so that the actress, who's been in the business for nearly 20 years, was tapped to host the venerable sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live over the weekend. Like most episodes of the show, Taraji's outing was hit or miss, but she more than proved that she can bring the drama and the funny to the SNL stage.

She kicked off the night with a witty opening monologue acknowledging the fact that if she's hosting SNL, it means that white people finally know who she is. She then launched into a churchy song with a full on choir "I Made It," in which she sung about all the things she could've been — including an extra in The Lion King, a pole twerker and a hip-hop video ho (again) — but thank God she made it. But the moment that most were waiting for came we she put on the skin tight dress and brightly colored fur of Cookie and stomped down Sesame Street, breaking up long-held friendships and even crumbling Cookie Monster's cookie.

All in all, it was a decent outing for the first-time host that saw her bring the funny with impressions of Nicki Minaj, Wanda Sykes and others and should surely bring the actress back to the SNL stage soon. Check out a few of the shows highlights and catch the whole shebang on Hulu.
