Last year, the AFROPUNK Fest announced they would be sharing some of the alternative urban music love and planting some roots down south in the ATL. While AFROPUNK is known for attracting top name acts and some amazing talent, no one was expecting quite this assortment of phenomenal artists at the inaugural event in October.
For the AFROPUNK Fest Atlanta, Hotlanta residents and visitors can look forward to D’Angelo and The Vanguard headlining the show, in addition to a number of popular acts. There will also be appearances from hip hop veterans Public Enemy, new age hip hop act Tyler, The Creator and SoulBounce fave Santigold. There are also a few repeats from the New York show who will be in attendance, including Lion Babe, Kaytranada, Danny Brown and Suicidal Tendencies. In addition, local Atlanta acts Baby Baby, Vavlt Boyz and RAHBI will also get some shine on this star-studded line up. There is definitely something for everyone to enjoy and explore at this two-day festival. In addition to the groundbreaking concert, AFROPUNK also plans to leave their mark on the city through philanthropic efforts. Through their AFROPUNK ARMY, the organization will provide low barrier volunteer activities and projects for youth to complete in exchange for a ticket to the festival.
If you're in the New York area, there's also some good news for you. Not to be outdone, the original AFROPUNK Fest in Brooklyn has added Gary Clark Jr. and Death Grips to the bill.
We can’t think of a better way to wind down the summer than attending one or both of these events. Tickets for the Brooklyn show are already on sale, while those of us in Atlanta will have to wait until tomorrow. Check out their website for more info on what looks to be a spectacular event.
