While future soul and trap-influenced beats all have their place in modern soul music, there is nothing like the sweet feel of ‘80s soul. Groups like Tuxedo have been doing their part to keep the funk flag flying high, but there is always room for more artists dropping post-disco infused goodies. There is such a joyful energy behind the synth heavy rhythms and dulcet vocals of iconic groups like Shalamar, The Gap Band and The Mary Jane Girls and we here at SoulBounce HQ are always ready to get down to those infectious grooves. Which is why we couldn’t stop hitting repeat when we came across UK duo Par-le.
Made up of Alex Bonfanti and Miles James, two highly sought-after session musicians who have played for SoulBounce faves like Jessie Ware, Jose James and Flying Lotus, Par-le is the dance floor duo you didn’t know you were missing from your life. Now that you’ve found them, trust us that you won’t want to let them go. The duo are set to drop their debut EP, The Light Years, very soon and in anticipation of how much soul lovers need what they provide, they have dropped two tracks to give a taste of their foray into funk.
