In case you didn’t get an invite to the festivities, rapper/producer Big K.R.I.T. was doing it real big yesterday celebrating his 29th birthday. However, in the midst of celebrating another year of life, the Mississippi native took some time to share a gift with his fans, releasing the new song “86.” The track is not only an ode to his birth year, but his favorite car, the 1986 Monte Carlo.

"86" starts out revved up like a deuce, with K.R.I.T. rolling out some tough lyrics in honor of his vehicle of choice. Young Krizzle spits, “Usually I talk about that Cadillac on Vogues / But today it’s all about Monte Carlo propped up on lows /...keep it colder than a polar bear’s toes / You better hop in before I close that do’!” The lyrics and flow are an allusion to your favorite southern rap stars, from YoungBloodZ to UGK. The production courtesy of K.R.I.T. and his partner in crime, Mike Hartnett, features a stirring soul sample, stutter-stepping drums and  funky guitar licks over a slick bass line reminiscent of the Isley Brothers and Curtis Mayfield. It’s the perfect soundtrack to riding and around and getting it with your crew, whether you’re in a Monte Carlo, an old Honda or something sitting on 22s.

For those of us who can’t get enough of the Dirty South representer, Big K.R.I.T. plans to hop in his “86” and visit a city near you during his 38 stop Kritically Acclaimed Tour. Things kick off October 22nd in Norfolk, VA and wrap up in Atlanta on December 18th. Check out the details and ticket information here.
