Most of the Control album was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. However, one of the most memorable songs on the album and the song that helped establish Janet as a dance icon, "The Pleasure Principle," was actually produced by their old band mate in The Time, Monte Moir.

Moir had worked with Prince and produced songs for Vanity 6, Deniece Williams, Gladys Knight and Alexander O’Neal to name a few. Legend has it, Moir was hanging out with his former band mates when the duo received word they’d be working on Janet’s next album. The guys asked if he could come up with a few songs and the rest is history. Peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, "The Pleasure Principle" is just shy of being one of Janet's biggest hits. However, while not one of her top 10 hits, the song has become a huge part of Janet’s catalog and left an indelible mark on pop culture.
