Cassandra Steen
Watch this: "So" live

I was having lunch at a friend's house one day when I heard this slick, R&B production and this stunning voice coming from the TV that immediately caught my attention. Then, I looked at the screen and saw the beautiful Cassandra Steen. Up to this point, I hadn't really heard any gritty, neo-soul type of music in German other than Joy Denalane, so it was really refreshing. Steen began her career back in 2001 as the lead vocalist of R&B, soul, pop group Glashaus and in 2003 released her debut album, Seele mit Herz.

When films are overdubbed into different languages, production companies call upon voiceover talent who can somewhat match the tone of the original actor's voice. And for movies that involve singing, recording artists with acting skills are enlisted to lend their talents. This was the case for Disney's The Princess and the Frog in German when Cassandra dubbed for the lead character, Princess Tiana. She also recorded a duet, "Never Knew I Needed," with Ne-Yo for the soundtrack.

Keep an eye out for new music from Cassandra Steen, but, while you wait, get into this live performance of her tune "So." Get to know Cassandra better on her website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
