We don't know about you, but we're still wrapping our minds and ears around Willow Smith's surprise debut album, Ardipthecus. The forward-leaning, experimental sounds of the project definitely have elicited a few reactions around our parts, with the general consensus being that Willow is one to watch in the years to come. But just when we thought we'd gotten all the new music we were going to get from young upstart in 2015, the teenaged singer/songwriter has gone and dropped yet another new song in our laps.
"Luv You W/ Tha Sky" finds her exploring familiar alternative sounds as she examines a common subject, teenage romance, in an uncoventional way. Utilizing L.A.-based producer/beatmaker Mark Redito's three-year-old instrumental track "Forgiveness" as a base, she waxes esoteric as she layers and distorts her vocal throughout the track, creating an interesting effect as she sings. Using "Forgiveness" was also a smart choice, as its laid-back, dream-like sound and different shifts in sound along with added elements help create a multi-textured listening experience. As with Ardipthecus (and a fair share of Willow's more recent offerings), the song isn't for everyone, but it's definitely an interesting listen nonetheless.
