With the help of her fans, Lalah Hathaway made her dreams come true by following in her father’s footsteps and recording a live album, and in turn made our dreams come true, too. After a successful Pledge Music crowdfunding campaign, Donny Hathaway’s baby girl recorded an album at The Troubadour in Los Angeles and shared it with the world in 2015. Needless to say, it turned out to be everything that we expected and more.
Lalah covered all bases with this superb live showing. She dug deep into her catalogue and pulled out gems like “Baby Don’t Cry,” “Lean On Me” and “I’m Coming Back.” She brought forth a timely rendition of her father’s classic “Little Ghetto Boy,” as well as an astounding remake of Anita Baker’s “Angel.” And if that wasn’t enough, Lalah topped off this live masterpiece with two funky new studio tracks that left us already anticipating more new music from her. As our girl has entered 2016 with this fantastic feat under her belt and preparing to possibly take home a GRAMMY for the third year in a row, this time for her take on “Little Ghetto Boy.” We can only hope that her decades of wonderful work no longer go unnoticed. -- Rob
