Can Janelle Monáe and her Wondaland crew do any wrong? The answer is no if we’re judging by 2015’s EP Wondaland Presents: The Eephus. Serving as an introduction to the house that Janelle built, the set produced the song of the summer with Jidenna’s inescapable hit “Classic Man,” which arrived in February. Then by April, another surefire winner arrived with Janelle’s own banger “Yoga.” The sophisti-rachet jams were just the appetizer for an eclectic main course in which retro rockers Deep Cotton let their freak flags fly with the funky lead-off “Let’s Get Caught” and folk&B duo St. Beauty enchanted with mellow groove “Going Nowhere.” And then there’s crooner Roman GianArthur’s ‘80s-inspired Prince-esque slow jam that hits all the right notes.

Wrap it all up with a remix that reprises “Classic Man” and adds constantly rising rapper Kendrick Lamar and you have a recipe for anticipation. With Wondaland entering 2016 strong, there’s no telling what else the electric ladies and dapper gentlemen have up their bespoke sleeves. However, we’re pretty sure we’ll be here for all of it. -- D-Money
