The Bounce-Worthy Eryn Allen Kane might have been new to the scene in 2015, but she made her presence known with her first single from her EP Aviary: Act 1, “Have Mercy.” The tender, heartfelt modern gospel number found the singer-songwriter counting all her blessings while feeling sorrow for the state of the world. It’s ultimately a beautiful work, with tight, layered harmonies supporting Eryn’s raspy vocal on the verse as she prays for a healing.
Speaking of tightly layered harmonies, they’re so good here that you almost don’t notice that there’s no instrumental accompaniment here. Yes, Ms. Kane is able to evoke all that soul, emotion, pain and triumph with just a few spare finger snaps and stellar vocals. It’s plain to see why she’s easily one of the up-and-comers that you should be watching out for in 2016. -- D-Money
