Next month will be a big one for the lady and gentlemen of The Internet. Not only are they up for their first GRAMMY during the February ceremonies, but the crew is also set to embark on a tour of the land down under in support of their most recent album, Ego Death. Having already given us two bonus tracks to the collection and a coast to coast tour, us Stateside fans weren't really expecting much more to come from their camp for a while, but we were wrong. The crew decided to do a little digging in their vaults and release a lost instrumental called "Timeless."
"Timeless" is a B-side from 2012, likely from their sessions for their sophomore album Feel Good, that finds the group exploring some of their soul and jazz sensibilities. On it, current drummer Chris Smith and bassist Patrick Paige swing out with former group members Tay Walker on keys and Dave Rosser on guitar. In the absence of driving forces Syd Tha Kyd and Matt Martians, we see that the band itself also has a musical sensibility that can't be denied. "Timeless" lives up to its name, with the number sounding like it could've come from George Benson's catalog. The keys, bass and guitar meld together quite nicely, delivering modern age smooth jazz from what some would say is one of the most unlikely places.
