Sananda Maitreya first thrilled us way back in 1987, when he was known as Terrence Trent D'Arby and released his debut album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terrence Trent D'Arby. Nearly 30 years later, the talented singer-songwriter is still putting out quality music. He released his 12th studio album, the double-disc The Rise of the Zugeberian Time Lords, this past October. The 27-song set has its fair share of highlights, including soulful number "Allergic," for which SoulBounce is proud to premiere a new lyric video.

"Allergic" is a song that rings true for the now 53-year-old, as he's a man all about defining his own destiny despite societal expectations. After a funky drum line and bass intro, a relaxing guitar groove leads us into the song's meaningful lyrics. "Allergic to the labels that / You try to pin on me," he opens. "I'm not sure / If I'm anything but free." While that's a powerful sentiment to begin with, Sananda explains even further while explaining exactly who he is. "I'm a child of wanderlust / And I have to let it roll / How can you expect to keep / A cage around a soul?" Such a touching, poetic lyric is something that we've come to expect from Sananda, who is just as thoughtful a lyricist as he is a musician.
