To say that jazz legend and iconic musician Miles Davis was a complicated man would be a gross understatement. The musical genius behind landmark albums like Kind Of Blue and Bitches Brew was known as much for his virtuosity as he was for his tumultuous life off stage. Famed actor and Oscar nominee Don Cheadle will bring Miles' story to life in the biopic Miles Ahead, which looks to bring the unconventional life of the trumpet player to the big screen using unconventional means judging by the newly released trailer.

The trailer opens with Miles (played by Cheadle) opening his door to a Rolling Stone reporter (Ewan McGregor) and promptly punching him in the face. From there, we see glimpses of Miles bussin' shots inside the Columbia Records offices, setting out in search of a lost session tape, wooing and creeping on his first wife, Frances (Emayatzy Corinealdi) and all kinds of other shenanigans. Meanwhile, the trailer promises that the feature film will be as bold and daring as its subject while giving an unvarnished look into what made the legend tick.

Miles Ahead, which surprisingly marks Cheadle's directorial debut, will bow in theaters on April 1st. Before you start clamoring for your tickets, take a peek at the trailer below.
