BLKKATHY's 'Lemon' Is Anything But Sour

2016 is clearly the year to turn lemons into musical lemonade. Of course there was the gigantic glass of Lemonade Beyoncé served up back in April. Now alt-R&B group BLKKATHY is throwing their hat into ring with their latest single, "Lemon."

Describing themselves via their SoundCloud page as a "Brooklyn-based duo of ladies who like to sing sad songs over very heavy bass beats," members Kate Faust and Kate Linhardt stick close to their goal with this sparse tune. "Lemon" opens simply with a thumping bass line before giving way to a synth-heavy song that finds the ladies lamenting a lover walking out. While on the surface it seems that they might want that old thang back, lines like "Maybe my hair will grow long and you'll want to see me again" and "Don't look like I'm the one; you fake it when you give me some" contain just enough snark to make you wonder if, deep down inside, they're really not missing anything at all.

Bouncy, simple and sweet, BLKKATHY effortlessly prove that there are more than enough lemons and lemonade to go around.
