Issa Rae's Insecure has finally come to the small screen, premiering this past Sunday night on HBO and grabbing 1.1 million viewers in the process. The comedy follows besties Issa and Molly (played by Yvonne Orji) as they hilariously navigate life and love in Los Angeles. Think The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl meets Girlfriends, but more true to life and a downright laugh riot. In case you missed the series premiere, the full episode is available to watch for free on YouTube (as well as below) where you can see these two and all of their shenanigans.

Something else you'll notice while watching Insecure is the dope music throughout the episode. From the opening scene with Kendrick Lamar's millennial anthem "Alright" playing in the background to the closing credits featuring Junglepussy's in-your-face "Bling Bling," music is woven throughout Insecure. And not just any old songs, but a slick mix of hip hop, R&B and alternative soul. It should come as no surprise, with Raphael Saadiq in the mix and Solange on board as music consultant. Saadiq and Solange are quite a winning pair, also having worked together on Solo's brilliant new album, A Seat at the Table.

Much like other recent television shows that have caught our attention -- The Get Down, Queen Sugar, Atlanta and Luke Cage -- the music soundtrack plays a role in setting the vibe for the viewer, and the vibe is right on Insecure. We'll be tuned in to the rest of the episodes this season to find out when/if Issa is gonna kick her current bae Lawrence to the curb and get with her old bae Daniel, see if Molly is gonna find a Dr. Feelgood to fix her broken p***y and hear what songs are used to enhance the story. Watch Insecure on HBO on Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET, and keep up with the tunes used on each episode with weekly playlists on Spotify.
