One thing Emeli Sandé is not, is hopeless. With her latest single and video, the Scottish songstress takes you on a journey with "Breathing Underwater." The beautiful ballad gets a gospel-assist that helps propel you to new heights as you listen to its rich harmonies and strong chorus. The accompanying visuals follow Emeli's minimalist style as she tackles different social issues, including drug addiction, racism, immigration and body shaming.
"And it's safe to say we surrendered a day / To pay back all the love you borrowed / And hope that I had survived yesterday / And today is jealous of tomorrow," Emeli sings. Her lyrics come to life as each subject goes through hell but comes through the other side with dance, later levitating to the sky. Not a stranger to captivating visuals, we last saw Emeli going through all the feels from a breakup in her video for "Hurt," the first single to her sophomore album and "Garden," her second single.
Now with three new cuts under her belt, Emeli releases the rest of her 15-track album Long Live the Angels tomorrow on November 11th. If you need a some amazing production and arrangements and a whole heap of hope, go ahead and cop it on iTunes.
