After a lengthy hiatus, romantic soul man Kenny Lattimore came back strong with last year's Anatomy of a Love Song. Unsurprisingly, the R&B singer delivered a smooth collection of amorous ballads and love-themed grooves. But this year, the Washington, D.C. native stepped back into the studio with a little something different in mind, releasing his inaugural holiday set, A Kenny Lattimore Christmas, via Motown Gospel. With help from gospel super producer/songwriter Aaron Lindsey, the singer offers a festive mix of standards and originals good enough to be included in our Holiday Gift Guide. And with Christmas drawing ever closer, he picked the perfect time to release the album's first set of visuals – a pair of music videos for "Real Love This Christmas" and "Home for the Holidays."
Though both clips are directed by Laterras R. Whitfield, the similarities end there. "Home for the Holidays" takes a minimalist approach, featuring solo frames of Mr. Lattimore singing against holiday-hued backdrops. The short video is reminiscent of the numerous a cappella clips we've seen on YouTube over the years, but Kenny's flawless vocals, killer smile and conspicuous beard make it stand out from the rest. In contrast, the visual for "Real Love This Christmas," which itself is a serious groove that expertly samples Shalamar's "This Is For the Lover In You," finds Kenny surrounded by people, lots of 'em, as they gather together for the holidays. The warmth of friendship and family love can be felt throughout the Soul Food-like clip as Kenny and a special lady attempt to connect (or perhaps re-connect by the looks of things).
Watch both videos below and head to retailers like iTunes and Amazon for a copy of A Kenny Lattimore Christmas. You can hear Kenny Lattimore perform his holiday set live as he's currently on the road with Dave Koz, Jonathan Butler and Valerie Simpson for the Dave Koz Christmas Tour.
