Just because we're a music site doesn't mean we don't love us some good television, and with new shows like The Get Down, Luke Cage, Greenleaf, Atlanta, Insecure, Queen Sugar and Star, this year has certainly given us month-after-month of Black-led "must see" content (with fantastic soundtracks to boot). But as the holiday season comes to a close and the new year readies its weekend debut, we're left with the realization that many of our favorite shows are on winter vacation and won't be back for several months. This makes January the perfect time to binge watch a new series or partake in the guilty pleasure of cable-network movies like Lifetime's Love By the 10th Date.

Written and helmed by respected director Nzingha Stewart, the romantic comedy features a varied cast of characters played by Meagan Good (who also serves as a producer), Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson, Kellee Stewart, Cat Deely, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Brandon T. Jackson. According to the press release, "Love By the 10th Date follows Gabby (Good), Nell (Stewart), Billie (Hilson) and Margot (Rowland) who balance their dating adventures alongside their career ambitions at an upscale digital magazine in Los Angeles...Inspired by the site’s relationship advice column to find the one, Gabby and Nell embark on their own journeys towards the elusive 10th date, the dating world's Holy Grail when it comes to commitment."

While the general premise seems a bit done to death, don't dismiss it just yet. For one thing, the story arc also includes some interesting character developments including Billie's contemplation of an open marriage, Nell's bisexual boyfriend and Margot's attraction to a controversial reggae musician. We've also heard whispers that the movie features a Raphael Saadiq score and will spotlight the work of Black artists Brianna McCarthy and Fahamu Pecou. And let's not forget the last film Stewart directed for Lifetime, 2015's With This Ring, resulted in ratings gold for the network as well as recognition from the NAACP Image Awards and Women's Image Network Awards. Peep the trailer below and let us know if you'll be tuning in or tuning out.
