Gwen Bunn Gets Her Year 'Started'

Gwen Bunn has been lying relatively low as of late, but not because she hasn't been busy. The singer-songwriter has been putting her talents to work behind the scenes, most recently crafting the lyrics for Sean Paul's new Tory Lanez-featuring single "Tek Weh Yuh Heart" alongside her partner-in-crime Ashton Combs. She hasn't forgotten her own career, though, as she dropped her new single "Started" over the weekend.

"Started," which is also co-written with Ashton, finds Gwen feeling the after effects of falling in love (or at least lust) with someone. As the 808 booms, guitar strings sing while Gwen works through her feelings. "No friends invited, we can be private / Look what we started," she begins. "I been missin' your body / Look what we started." From there, she weaves a tale of clandestine meetings and secret rendezvous between her and her lover, her vocal accented with Auto-Tune to fit with the production. Though the lyrics are quite repetitive and the Auto-Tune makes it difficult to understand all the lyrics here, there's something endearing about this particular cut. Perhaps it's because the woozy, stumbling feel of the track mimics the first rushes of newly discovered affinity and sexual chemistry. Or maybe it's just that Gwen and her talent have the ability to make even the simplest of ideas sound pretty damn fresh and interesting.

Whatever it is, "Started" has us looking forward to hearing more from Gwen in 2017. Press play and see if you agree.
