The 32nd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards Nominees Announced, Erica Campbell & Anthony Brown To Host

Earlier this week, the nominations for the 32nd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards were announced. For over 30 years, the event has been hailed as an epic night in gospel and has handed out awards to artists in 26 categories. The Stellar Awards will once again return to Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena on Saturday, March 25th and will premiere on TV One Sunday, April 9th at 7 p.m. ET.

This year, breakthrough artist Travis Greene and chart-topping soloist Tamela Mann lead the pack with nine nominations. We predict that Greene, who is sadly on the short list of performers at the new president's inauguration festivities, will take home most, if not all, of the awards he is nominated for, including CD of the Year and Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year.  The inspirational psalmist is having a, well, stellar year, and we all remember his amazing performance at BET’s Celebration of Gospel last year in which Tye Tribbett, Jonathan McReynolds and Chrisette Michele joined Greene for a performance of his GRAMMY and Stellar-nominated song "Intentional." Gospel superstar and actress Tamela Mann is also competing for CD of the Year, as well Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year, Producer of the Year and Song of the Year, for her song “God Provides” with Kirk Franklin.

Speaking of Franklin, he and fellow gospel veteran Hezekiah Walker demonstrate their staying power in gospel music, each with seven and six nominations, respectively. Other artists earning multiple nominations include newcomers Bri, Livre’, Enon Tabernacle and living legend Pastor Shirley Caesar.  Multiple Stellar Awards and GRAMMY Award-winning solo artist, nationally-syndicated radio host and television personality Erica Campbell will join last year's big Stellar Award winner, songwriter/arranger Anthony Brown, to co-host this year’s event.

The founder of the Stellar Awards and Chairman of Central City Productions Inc., Don Jackson says the 2017 nominees, “represent the strongest group of Gospel artists and songs,” in the award show’s 32-year history. He says this year’s large number of first-time nominees is a, “positive testament to the new and upcoming artists in Gospel Music, as well as, a reflection of the tremendous growth of the Gospel Music Genre.”

Congratulations to all of the nominees, and we will be watching on April 9th to see who takes home these coveted awards. If you want to see it all unfold live, the show taping is open to the public, with ticket prices ranging from $50 - $200 that can be purchased now on Ticketmaster.
