Believe it or not, it's been nearly three years since we've gotten some newness from Swedish band Little Dragon, but it looks as if this year will break the drought. Out of the blue, the quartet has not only dropped a new song, "High," but they've also given us a new video as well for the sensual track as well.
The song finds the band expanding on the more sensual sound that they created on their previous release Nabuma Rubberband. Warm, slinky synths create most of the sound here, with hi-hats and a heavy kick driving the rhythm and a solid bass line providing the foundation. This leaves plenty of room for singer Yukimi Nagano's airy, emotive voice, which lands on the ear soft as a feather as she sings.
For the song's video, Yukimi takes on the role of an ethereal shaman in what appears to be a snow-land. As she takes in those seeking a spiritual connection, the other members of the band play odd instruments like upright bass, accordion, recorder and tiny toy piano to provide a soundtrack for the scarf-covered inner sanctum. In the tradition of Little Dragon videos, it's a bit hard to decipher the exact storyline going on here, but with its trippy effects and hazy shots, it's at least visually arresting if not narratively cohesive.
In other LD news, the band will be touring North America this spring and summer, with dates already lined up for April, May and July, including a set at Coachella. If we didn't know any better, we'd swear they have an album coming soon. We guess only time will tell.
