Fresh off of their electrifying performance at the start of this year's NBA All-Star Game, The Roots continue to prove why they are one of the hardest working bands in show business. The guys just released the lineup for the 10th Annual Roots Picnic and from the looks of it, things will be pretty epic.
Headliners for the one-day event include Solange and a joint set including Pharrell Williams and The Legendary Roots Crew. Other acts on the jam-packed bill include Kimbra, Thundercat, Pete Rock, DJ Spinna, Gilles Peterson, Khalid and Michael Kiwanuka.
Hip-hop and rap fans will have just as much to look forward to with Lil' Wayne, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Noname on the bill. Additionally, Black Thought and J. Period will bring their Live Mixtape series to life in what is sure to be a legendary performance where they'll be joined by Fat Joe, Mobb Deep and former band member and music producer Scott Storch.
The festival returns to its home at Philadephia's Festival Pier at Penn's Landing on Saturday, June 3rd. Now in its 10th year, the Roots Picnic has evolved into one of music's most anticipated festival events thanks to the variety and quality of talent that performs each year. "Ten years ago, this [Roots Picnic] started [off] as a concept, an idea, a conversation between me, Tarik (Black Thought), Ahmir (Questlove) and Rich (Nichols),” The Roots’ longtime manager and partner in Maverick Management Shawn Gee recalled in a statement. "We are super excited to bring a packed lineup to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and as always there will be plenty of surprises and special guests."
Tickets for the Roots Picnic start at $75 with VIP options and are on currently on sale on the official website. With a lineup this strong, you definitely want to act fast. We doubt tickets will last for long.
