Xavier Omär Returns With A Minimal Yet Powerful Clip For 'Speculate'

Xavier Omar "Speculate" Still

Xavier Omär, the artist formerly known as SPZRKT (pronounced “Spazzy Rocket”), is back with a new video for his track “Speculate.” The song itself showcases his uniquely dope vocals as well as his amazing songwriting skills. His voice aches over a love gone wrong as he sings, “I remember waking to 'I love you' every single night or day / Chances are you never really loved me / I'm not gonna speculate.” The intensity of the track gradually increases as if to mimic his determination to not let the pain of lost love get the best of him. He defiantly declares, “I'm so brave / You won't leave me heartless / I'm okay, I'll find love regardless.” The video, directed by Matt Everitt, places the spotlight on Omär’s face and is a minimalist collection of light and shadow pieced together creating a somehow complex result.

“Speculate” is off Omär’s EP The Everlasting Wave, released late last year. The EP is basically a tale of attraction, love and heartbreak and serves as an honest and artistic expression of his own personal life. He describes the single as “a song about dealing with the pain while not letting the pain win.” Prior to changing his name and releasing his solo project with no features, he joined forces with DJ/producer Sango to deliver the impeccable EP Hours Spent Loving You, which made its way to our Best EPs and Mixtapes of 2015 list. In regards to “Speculate,” he says, “The relationship from Hours Spent Loving You ended abruptly, and this is the pain that ensued.”  Well, then. While we would never rejoice in another’s pain, his broken heart has yielded a beautiful musical expression that we can't seem to stop listening to.
