When it comes to live performances, there are few who can rock a stage quite like the incomparable Ledisi. The songstress can not only sing with vocals that sound sweet to our ears but she touches our souls. Our girl took to the Black Girls Rock! 2017 stage to lift our spirits with her latest single, “High.”

Draped in a sparkly black kimono, similar to her look in the video for “High,” Ledisi strutted onto the stage, commanding everyone's attention. In addition to effortless vocals, Ledisi gave the audience sista girl looks, attitude, glam, and, most of all, the feeling that greatness was not only in front of us but within us.  The “Blame You” singer made the most of her live arrangement, incorporating a few ad-libs, a break down with the band and a call and response with her background singers. The band even added some additional flavor to the track, including some guitar, chimes and additional elements to create a lush sound bed for Ledisi's heavenly vocals. Finally, the songstress gave us an amazing high note that would leave your fave cringing in the fetal position, before exclaiming, “Ya’ll don’t know nothing about that! That’s R&B, baby!” She then sauntered off the stage with a self-assured swagger as the crowd, including stars like Issa Rae, Maxwell, Jussie Smollett and Solange , stood up and cheered.

In a follow-up message on Instagram, the “Blame You” singer, ever so humbly, thanked God, Love, her record label, stylist Nonja Mckenzie, everyone involved in creating “High,” and, of course, herself. And, given the way Ledisi made us feel after that performance, we’re not mad at that little pat on her own back. She’s a bad mamma jamma, and with this performance she made everyone within earshot feel like they rock, too.
