Jhené Aiko Takes Us On A 'Trip' In Short Film

Jhené Aiko is in the movie business. A few days ago, Aiko dropped a trailer for her new short film, Trip, and now we have it in full. The soulful songstress explores self-discovery and her relationship with her late brother in the film she wrote along with Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver. The 23-minute short begins with Aiko writing in her journal by the beach when a beautiful man urges her to "Come on this trip with me." We guess Aiko doesn't believe in stranger danger because she decides to go with him wherever he decides to take her — and us.

The film then follows Penny (Aiko) and her now-significant other on a journey acros the country, where they check out the ocean, diners, motels and even go on an animated psychedelic trip after taking mushrooms. We won't give away all the juicy details, but you will definitely want to watch the short for yourself, especially until the beautiful end. The movie features original music from the songstress in the background and original poetry by Aiko as she serves as the movie's narrator.

Aiko's upcoming album, TRIP 17, her follow-up to 2014's Souled Out, is set to be released this fall. While we've been waiting for a new solo album for a while, Aiko released TWENTY88 with her boo Big Sean in 2016, and most recently her latest track, "While We're Young," which is still available on all streaming platforms. It looks like the emotional short serves as a prelude to the album and, from what we can hear, it's an album worth our wait. Grab your popcorn and watch Trip right here or catch it on Jhené's website.
